HMV Digtal & iPod, here’s how!
This christmas I got a £14.99 30 days HMV digital download voucher, but are they compatible with iPod’s? No. Is the HMV software compatible with OS X? Course not. So here’s how. Bear in mind that you will need a Windows Computer or Parallels, if you don’t have these then I probally can’t help. Crossover might work but I never tried that (fear of it being soo slow I throw my macbook across the room). So here goes.
Things you’ll need:
Windows compatible PC, or Parallels installed. For this guide i’ll be using Parallels.
FairUse4WM for Windows. (free download)
EasyWMA for OS X. ($10 lifetime license, worth it if you ask me.)
Here’s how:
Download all your tracks on HMV Digital, then find them in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\My Music
Search within that folder for .wma. Select all the files found and copy them into a seperate folder in the desktop
Open FairUse4WM (on first run it’ll ask you for a license key, just select one of your downloaded music files) click Add Files and select all the files you’ve just copied to the desktop. It’ll remove the DRM ready for conversion.
At this bit it’s down to you to copy the files onto your Mac. If you’re running Windows within Parallels then just click, drag and drop onto your OS X desktop, if not then a portable USB Drive or burning the files to CD will probally be easiest.
I found it easier to convert the files in OS X itself, as it’s quite CPU heavy and may cause Parallels to freeze up.
Open up EasyWMA and select all your WMA files. Make sure you’ve selected MP3 from the drop down menu otherwise it’ll convert all your music to m4a.
Once this is done import all the mp3 files to iTunes, download album art and wolah!
